KAUST Research: Partnering to better understand the far depths of the Red Sea

The KAUST Coastal and Marine Resources Core Lab (CMR) team was recently on board the Fugro survey vessel (Kobi Ruegg) to conduct the first joint survey between KAUST & Fugro. The project aimed to create high-resolution seafloor mapping for selected areas. During the cruise, they have managed to do surveys at some of the deepest points in the Red Sea. The result is the making of 3D maps of the seafloor for several research groups at KAUST.

The collaboration is the result of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) singed in 2018 between KAUST and Fugro, the world’s leading geo-data specialist, which established the Fugro Center of Excellence for Marine Technology.
